In their first birth, they were born to Sage Kashyapa and Diti as two sons Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. They were very cruel in nature and tormented the whole world. Hiranyaksha seeking an opponent to fight, roamed around with a mace. Hearing that only Lord is his matching opponent through Varuna, submerged Goddess Earth in the water, wandered in the water triumphantly with mace and awaited Lord to come and fight with him to save his dear wife. Swayambhu Manu, Brahma's son started creating the beings on earth as per his father's advice. After creation, he wanted to put the beings on the Earth.
